Have a Speed-Date with Spray Paint and Win a Trip to Hawaii

In a hurry to complete a home improvement project? Want to try out a new color on a chair, nightstand or other décor item without a lot of fuss, mess or expense? Consider spray paint, says design expert, author and do-it-yourself television personality Kathy Peterson.

“When it comes to experimenting with color and style, spray paint is to decorating what speed-dating is to relationships,” Peterson says. “You can get great results without a big commitment of time or money.” Love the color? Keep it and build on it with flower arrangements, pillows, throws and other accessories. It was just a flirtation? No problem. With today’s trendy spray paint color palettes, it’s easy to find love with another color the second time around.

Spray paint’s other advantages include a smooth finish with no brush marks, and an easier time covering hard-to-reach or irregular surfaces.

One of Peterson’s newest spray paint raves is Krylon H2O™ Latex, a premium-quality spray paint that offers the ultimate in convenience. Named for its water-based, non-toxic formulation, Krylon H2O Latex is friendlier to the environment than solvent-based paints and dries in only 15 minutes. It washes off hands with just soap and water, plus overspray can be wiped up with a wet sponge within 20 minutes of application. As a result it can be sprayed indoors with ventilation or outdoors on wood, metal, wicker, Styrofoam® Brand Foam and more.

“Spraying indoors lets do-it-yourselfers enjoy the advantages of spray paint all year long with the same long-lasting beauty and resistance to chips and nicks as latex house paint in a gallon can,” Peterson says.

She recommends using spray paint for simple fix-ups that can make a striking difference around the home and yard. Brightening architectural details such as shutters, garden gates and light fixtures with a punch of color can increase a home’s curb appeal, while indoors, strategic use of color can make stand-outs of furniture and accessories ranging from tables and headboards to picture frames and wicker baskets.

Spray painters who want to get serious can enter a contest to win a trip for two to Hawaii’s Grand Wailea Resort including airfare, car rental, hotel and cash for spending. Five additional winners will receive a $100 American Express gift card. To enter, you’ll need a “before” photo of your next DIY project and an “after” photo of the project painted with Krylon H2O Latex colors. There are five project categories: wood décor, wicker décor, metal décor, kids’ room décor, and baby nursery projects.

All entries must be postmarked by December 20, 2006 and received by December 31, 2006. Judging of entries will be completed by January 31, 2007 and will be based on 40% creativity, 30% use of Krylon H2O Latex, and 30% originality. Winners will be notified by mail by February 15, 2007. Professional designers are not eligible to participate.
