Recycling
Steel is the most recycled material in the world. According to the Steel Recycling Institute, more steel is recycled annually than all other materials, including aluminum, glass and paper, combined.
Did you know that steel aerosol cans are also recyclable? Krylon aerosol cans are made from more than 25% recycled steel and are designed for recycling when empty. The benefits of recycling include reducing the volume of aerosol can waste in landfills and conserving energy and natural resources needed to produce new steel. In fact, steel furnaces require recycled steel to make new steel, which means post-consumer steel cans are in demand. The Steel Recycling Institute maintains that each pound of recycled steel saves 5,450 BTUs of energy in subsequent steel production, as an alternative to traditional raw materials.
More than 5,300 locations nationwide include empty aerosols for recycling as part of their steel can mix in both household residential and curbside buy-back and drop-off programs. Recycling instructions for steel aerosol cans are easy: use them up until the containers are empty, remove the plastic cap to be recycled separately, and then recycle the cans along with other containers according to your local community guidelines.
Our redesigned caps not only use less plastic than before, but they also have the plastic resin identification code molded into the cap to make it easier to recycle.
